Tyreke Johnson says Southampton Under-23s are relishing taking on Manchester City at Staplewood.
Martin Hunter’s side have gone four unbeaten in Premier League 2 and will be hoping to preserve their unbeaten home record in the league.
And as they look to replicate the first-team with a good result against City, Johnson is hoping to make amends for not beating Arsenal last time out.
“We’re looking forward to it. We got a good result against Arsenal and of course we could have won. I had a few chances myself so I’m looking to put that right,” Johnson said.
“Manchester City are always a good team, who are good on the ball and play fast-flowing football.”
The positive start to the season has built momentum and confidence among the group, which is something Johnson feels is partly down to the clear pathway at the club.
He added: “We’ve had a young team with quite a lot of scholars in the Under-23 side so to get results against teams like Arsenal shows how well we’re doing.
“I think it’s going well for me. I did well in the Under-18s at the start of the season and thankfully I’ve got my chance.
“It shows the chances are here with the Under-18s moving up and the Under-23s moving into the first-team as well.”
