Claude Puel was satisfied after watching his side earn a valuable point in the 1-1 draw against Manchester City at Etihad Stadium.
Saints took the lead when Nathan Redmond was alert to a misplaced backpass from John Stones, before rounding Claudio Bravo to score.
And despite Kelechi Iheanacho’s leveller on 55 minutes, they showed their resilience again to not only keep City at bay, but threaten a winner themselves late on on the break.
Puel relflected: “I think it’s a good result for the squad and all the work today because it was a difficult game.
“We take a good opportunity in the first-half to score and afterwards we defend without difficulties in the first-half.
“It was important to keep good organisation and in the second-half it was difficult of course because the result of the game was important to this team.
“They had two days more recovery and we had to keep a good organisation as well as playing good on the counter attack with good transition.
“We had possibilities to score another goal but it’s a good point for us.”
