Sofiane Boufal was delighted to make his debut for Southampton on Thursday night, and believes positives can be taken into Manchester City.
The summer signing replaced Dušan Tadić for the final 20 or so minutes in Milan, as he featured in a Saints shirt for the first time having recovered from injury.
Despite the defeat, Boufal believes Saints can take plenty away from the San Siro, as they get set to take on Man City at Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
“It was so special for me, because it was my first game for Southampton and to play that at the San Siro was wonderful,” Boufal told southamptonfc.com.
“I’m not happy totally, because I hoped for victory, but the team played well. We missed opportunities to score the goal.
“For the team we had lots of opportunities and we needed to score one or two goals, but they had a great goalkeeper and we didn’t manage to score.
“I hope next game against Inter we will win the match.”
On his own performance and fitness, Boufal added: “I’m feeling good. I don’t have any pain. It’s my first game for Southampton, so of course there is more to come.
“I need time, because I haven’t played for five months. I need time to get back to full fitness, but I am feeling better every day and I hope to help Southampton this season.”
