Sam McQueen was left disappointed, despite making his first start for the club against Internazionale in the UEFA Europa League.
McQueen was named in Claude Puel’s starting XI after impressing during his Premier League bow against Burnley on Sunday.
But while he naturally took great pride in that, the 1-0 defeat against the Italian giants meant frustration was the overriding feeling.
He said: “To be named in the starting team was special and I was excited. Out there I enjoyed it and tried to do everything I could to help the team.
“Overall I’m disappointed is the main feeling, and I’m frustrated as nice as it is to be playing we should have won.
“We were the better team, dominated it and created chances which we’ve got to take.”
He added: “I was very nervous before the game but some people say that helps you perform in the right way.
“I was trying to make myself feel comfortable, embrace the nerves if you like and do what I’m trained to do.”
