Redmond eyes more goals

Nathan Redmond is desperate to get back on the scoresheet for Southampton, as he looks to continue his development as a striker.

The 22-year-old netted an excellent strike on his debut, in the 1-1 draw with Watford on the opening day of the campaign, but, despite some threatening displays since then, he is still searching for another goal.

The signs of progress have been encouraging, though, and Redmond feels his next strike could really allow him to kick on.

"I need to get back on the scoresheet,” he said. “I've had a few chances – one against Swansea, which I put over, and I've had a few other ones here and there, but I'm learning from those mistakes and as soon as I get back on the scoresheet I hope they start rolling in."

Having been converted from a winger to more of a forward under Claude Puel, Redmond is continuing to relish the challenge he has been set.

"It's still a learning process," he said. "I'm still thoroughly enjoying the sort of journey of various conversations with the manager and my family and friends and stuff about that.

“It's a learning process and it's not going to happen overnight – it is going to be one of those things that takes time, but I'm thoroughly enjoying it.

“If I can contribute to the team that little bit more in terms of scoring a few more goals then I'll be more than happy.”
