Southampton Under-18s coach Craig Fleming was delighted with his side’s resolve after the 0-0 draw at Brighton.
In a game of few clear-cut openings for either side, Saints earned another point in the Under-18 Premier League.
And Fleming was particularly pleased with how his side defended after their work on the training field.
He said: “It was scrappy and it certainly wasn’t one for the purists on a windy day but we dug in there and were very resolute.
“Parkesy hasn’t had a shot to save in the whole game really and we had one very good chance and a couple of others.
“We’re delighted with a clean sheet as it’s always a difficult place to come. We had quite a young team out with some of the older boys involved with Radhi and Martin in the Under-23s so there is lots of positives.”
Fleming added: “We’ve worked hard in training in terms of being harder to beat and being a bit more professional in how we do things.
“We’re starting to be very hard to play and score against which is obviously the aim.”
