U23 Preview: Valery benefiting from experience

By SFC Media Fri 14 Oct Arsenal U23 vs Saints U23

Yan Valery believes spending time with the first-team in pre-season has helped his progression with Southampton’s Under-23s side this term.

The right-back has been a regular fixture and could well feature as Saints visit Arsenal in Premier League 2 action tonight.

The Frenchman, who is still just 17, said: "I think the pre-season with the first-team helped me, to see what that level is, so when I came back with my age group I tried to work more on my one-v-one defending, my heading, with the coaches and I think now I am better defensively, but I still have things to improve on.”

Valery will be hoping to help second-placed Saints continue their strong start to the season as they visit Boreham Wood’s Meadow Park stadium this evening.

"I think it will be a good game against a good team,” he said. “I hope we take three points, because we are a good team too. If we play our football I think we can take three points.

"I think there will be a lot of attack v defence. They have good attacking players, but if we keep possession and we wait for the good moments I think we can score and win.”
