Bertrand limps off in England win

By SFC Media Sat 08 Oct International

Southampton's Ryan Bertrand started for England, but his afternoon ended in disappointment as he limped off injured.

The left-back started for Gareth Southgate in his first game as Interim England manager, while club teammate Fraser Forster was named among the substitutes.

The Saints defender started brightly, before pulling up when looking to latch onto a pass from Manchester United's Wayne Rooney.

Bertrand was replaced shortly after by Tottenham's Danny Rose.

England took the lead soon after, as Daniel Sturridge headed home, before Dele Alli ensured Southgate's side took a two-goal advantage into half time.

That was as good as it got for the hosts, as they failed to find a way through in the second half.

Bertrand will now return to the south coast to be assessed by Saints' medical team.
