Højbjerg and Denmark beaten by Poland

By SFC Media Sat 08 Oct Pierre-Emile Højbjerg

Southampton's Pierre-Emile Højbjerg was unable to stop Denmark from suffering a 3-2 defeat away to Poland on Saturday night.

The Saints midfielder played the full 90 minutes of the FIFA 2018 World Cup qualifier, as Robert Lewandowski's hat-trick proved to be the difference.

The Bayern Munich man netted in the 20th, 36th and 48th minute to give Poland a three-goal lead, before Denmark started to fight back.

An own-goal from Kamil Gilk made it 3-1 just a minute after Lewandowski had completed his hat-trick, before Yussuf Poulsen pulled another one back with 20 minutes remaining, but Poland held on to their lead.

The defeat leaves Denmark on three points from their opening two Group E games, having beaten Armenia last time out.
