Long features in Republic of Ireland win

By SFC Media Thu 06 Oct Shane Long

Southampton forward Shane Long played 94 minutes of Republic of Ireland’s 1-0 victory over Georgia at the Aviva Stadium, Dublin.

After a goalless first-half in which Ireland were frustrated by the visitors, who struck the woodwork twice, Seamus Coleman broke the deadlock on 56 minutes for his first international goal.

The hosts began to take control and thought they had doubled the advantage moments later, but James McClean was adjudged to be in an offside position having headed home.

As Martin O'Neill looked to preserve the three points late on, Long made way for Sunderland's John O'Shea.

Next up for Long and Republic of Ireland is their 2018 World Cup qualifier away to Moldova on Sunday 9th October (7.45pm BST).
