Dominic Gape netted his first senior goal for Wycombe Wanderers in their 5-1 midweek victory over Crewe Alexandra in Sky Bet League 2.

Gape completed the full 90 minutes for Gareth Ainsworth’s side and swept home from Joe Jacobson’s cross to make it 3-0 before half time.

It was the midfielder’s first ever senior goal, and caps an excellent star to life with the Choirboys for Gape.

Elsewhere, Jason McCarthy played the full 90 minutes, but was unable to help prevent Walsall from falling to a 4-1 home defeat against table-topping Scunthorpe United.

League 1 top goalscorer Josh Morris netted a hat-trick to help seal all three points for the visitors, with Erhun Oztumer on target for the Midlands side.

The result sees Jon Witney’s side fall to 20th in the table, with a home game against Milllwall next up on the agenda.

Striker Sam Gallagher was also in action as he started for Blackburn Rovers in their home game against Sheffield Wednesday, which they lost 1-0.

Gallagher, who has scored three times for Rovers, played 57 minutes before being replaced by Danny Graham.

Owen Coyle’s men are now in 22nd position in the Championship after Steven Fletcher’s solitary strike on 22 minutes.
