Jordy Clasie has praised the level of competition for places in the Saints squad ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash at West Ham United.
Claude Puel has opted to rotate his squad so far this season to keep his side fresh in a busy schedule.
Clasie missed a sizeable period of pre-season ahead of the 2015/16 campaign, but is now feeling the benefit of getting valuable minutes under his belt in the opening weeks.
He said: “I’m always happy that I’m playing because I know there is a lot of competition in the team and a lot of good midfielders.
“The only thing you can do is train at 100% and wait for your chance. If I get the chance I try to help the team with everything I can do and show my qualities.”
“I feel much, much better after a full pre-season. I got cramp against Arsenal but that was the first game where I started.
“It’s important for me to get minutes which will make me even fitter and I was happy to play 90 minutes on Wednesday.”
