Olufela Olomola was left frustrated after Southampton Under-23s were twice denied by Leicester City at Staplewood in a 2-2 draw on Monday night.
Despite goals either side of the interval taking his personal tally for the season to four, a late Raul Uche header earned the visitors a share of the spoils.
But with three wins and a draw from the last five games, Olomola feels a young side has plenty to be positive about.
“It was a tough game as they were very physical and played a lot of long balls.
“We had a young side this week so it was much harder as we had to use our brains and try not to try and fight them as much.
“We conceded late twice which is quite frustrating but it’s something we can learn from and try to put right."
Olomola headed home Tyreke Johnson’s inch-perfect delivery from the left on eight minutes, before converting Lloyd Isgrove’s low centre five minutes from time.
And he was quick to play tribute to his teammates contribution as he continued a fine scoring start to the PL2 campaign.
“It’s always nice to score as a striker as that’s what I’m on the pitch to do. We won the Reading game but on a personal note I was a bit frustrated not to get a couple of goals.
“I’m happy to have got some today!
“I feel confident because I’ve got a great team behind me and I needed to get the service tonight and take nothing away from Lloyd and Tyreke.”
