Charlie Austin hopes Southampton have given themselves a platform to build from ahead of tomorrow's Premier League game against Swansea City.
Austin was twice on target in Saints’ 3-0 win over AC Sparta Praha on Thursday night, and the striker says that, now they have their first success under them, the team can push on in the top-flight.
Claude Puel’s men are yet to win in the league this season, but Austin is confident they can record another victory over the weekend.
“We just needed that first win and hopefully that can take us into Sunday,” he said. “If we see the atmosphere we had, hopefully we can bring that again on Sunday to get our first win in the league as well now.”
Austin grabbed his first goals of the season in the win over Sparta, and hopes his own form can improve from here.
“It feels great,” he said of his two strikes. “As a centre forward, you always want to score and as a team it was important that we got a win which has given us a great big boost now.
“An early goal settles the nerves, but we pushed on and rightly so we deserved the lead.”
There’s more to come after Sunday’s game, as Saints host Crystal Palace in the EFL Cup, but Austin remains focused on one match at a time.
He said: “We’ve got a lot of matches coming up in all competitions so let’s push on now this Sunday.”
