Charlie Austin was delighted for the team after his two goals helped Southampton to a 3-0 win over AC Sparta Praha at the start of their UEFA Europa League campaign.
Striker Austin grabbed a brace of first half goals to put the hosts in command at St Mary’s, before substitute Jay Rodriguez added a third in injury time.
Austin notched both of his strikes in the opening half an hour of play, and says it feels good to have recorded the team’s first win of the season too.
“I’m very pleased. We knew we didn’t have the strongest of starts to the season, but look, we knew we needed to get a win and it didn’t matter how it came, but our team performance was second to none out there,” he told youtube.com/southamptonfc after the game.
“We felt if we kept playing the results would come and it did tonight.”

The forward scored from the penalty spot to get the ball rolling after six minutes and added a second with a well-taken header just before the half hour for his first goals of the campaign.
“I felt sharp and felt fit and confidence is always high when you get the first and second goals,” he said.
“It’s not just about me but the whole team performance. Look what Longy does for the team too, that was a great ball in for Jay to score and the whole performance was second to none.

” Prior to the spot kick Austin and Dušan Tadić had a disagreement over who should take the penalty, but the striker said he was determined to show his ability from 12 yards.
“It was a bit silly with Dušan but I’m confident as a striker I want to take penalties and we’ve put that to bed now. We kissed and made up!
“I was confident stepping up and that’s why I’ve grabbed the ball and then stuck it in the back of the net.”
