Pierre-Emile Højbjerg was voted by fans as Southampton’s Under Armour Player of the Month for August.
The midfielder, who arrived from Bayern Munich, took home over 40 per cent of the votes from supporters to claim the inaugural award of the 2016/17 campaign.
Højbjerg made his debut as a substitute in the draw with Watford, before starting both of Saints’ other two matches – against Manchester United and Sunderland – during the month of August.
Speaking about his award, Højbjerg said: “It’s a very big honour and it’s a nice thing, but of course it’s about the team effort most of all.
“It’s about the team helping me and me helping the team. I was lucky to take this award, but in the end it’s about all of the players in the squad that carry each other on the way.
“We always want to win on the pitch, that’s the mentality and that’s our way of playing. We would’ve liked to win the two home games, but we have to keep going.
“For me I just try to do my job and the best I can for the team. The team has accepted me very quickly and helped me settle in.
“The big players help everybody and show great leadership. It’s a strength of the team and we’re all trying to move forward and progress.”
On receiving the votes from fans, Højbjerg said: “I really like the fans. They seem to be hungry, ambitious and willing to go through fire for the win.
“We’re the same and we will give everything to make the fans happy.”
