Award gives me more incentive to improve, says Forster

Fraser Forster says his Barclays Premier League Player of the Month award will only motivate him to work harder to improve.

The goalkeeper kept three clean sheets during the month of February, keeping Arsenal, West Ham United and Swansea City at bay.

And those performances were rewarded with the Player of the Month award, as Forster won it ahead of the likes of Willian, Harry Kane and Robert Huth.

Speaking to saintsfc.co.uk, Forster said: “It’s obviously fantastic to win the award, but it’s just another incentive to keep working hard and work as hard as I can until the end of the season.

“I’m obviously delighted to receive the award. Personally it was a good month for me, and as a team it was a great month as well.

“I think it was a good month all round. We put in a lot of good performances as a team with a good run of clean sheets.

“If you’re doing that then it’s easier to win games.”

And Forster was quick to praise his teammates for their help in his success, as he became only the sixth Southampton player to win a Premier League Player of the Month award.

“It’s obviously nice to get the award, but it’s credit to the players in front of me,” Forster added. “It’s a real team game.

“It was just a really good month for the whole team and we want more of that.”
