Cédric: We must match Sunderland's aggression

By SFC Media Sat 05 Mar Club

Cédric says Southampton must match Sunderland’s aggression when the Black Cats visit St Mary’s on Saturday.

Saints boss Ronald Koeman questioned his side’s aggressive nature on Tuesday evening when they lost 2-0 to AFC Bournemouth away from home.

And with Sunderland also fighting for their lives at the bottom of the table, Cédric says he’s expecting another tough test this weekend.

“Sunderland have a good team and they are fighting for their lives because they want to stay in the Premier League,” Cédric told reporters ahead of Saturday’s game.

“We also need to fight hard because we want to achieve a higher position, so it will be an interesting game for sure and I’m looking forward to it.

“Sometimes these teams are more aggressive and they don’t give you as much space. The teams at the top like to play more football on the floor.

“You have more time to think, but against the teams trying to survive in the Premier league, they are more aggressive and I’m sure Sunderland will be.”

Despite disappointing results against Chelsea and the Cherries, Cédric says the team’s ambitions should remain the same.

“I’ve always been taught to try and aim high and look forward rather than backwards,” the Portugal international added.

“So the team, and me personally, want to push on and finish the season strongly. We are working hard and taking each game as it comes.”
