Exhibition celebrating Saints coming to SeaCity Museum

An exhibition celebrating Southampton Football Club’s history is coming to SeaCity Museum in 2018.

The exhibition, which will be housed in SeaCity Museum’s iconic Pavilion extension, will provide a fascinating look at the cutting-edge sports science techniques currently employed by the club across player fitness, training and nutrition, as well as a unique insight into the club’s future plans.

There will also be a compelling look back at the club's history – from formation as St. Mary’s Young Men’s Association Football Club in the 19th century, to established Premier League club – including highlights along the way such as the fabled FA Cup win in 1976.

Saints fans can come forward with their own memorabilia, which could play a starring role in the exhibition.

Curators from SeaCity Museum and representatives from the club will be on hand at a series of special memorabilia roadshows in 2016, the first of which will be held at St Mary's Stadium on Saturday 21st May between 10am-3pm. Further dates will be announced later in the year.

Chief Executive Gareth Rogers said: “I am delighted that the club will have such a tremendous exhibition in SeaCity Museum, as it will be a fantastic opportunity for the city to find out more about our ground-breaking technology and processes, as well as providing an exclusive look at what lays ahead.

“It is also fantastic that fans will be able to contribute to the celebration of our history, as they have played such a pivotal role in that journey. I cannot wait to see the variety of memorabilia they come forward with, and I am very much looking forward to the opening of the exhibition in 2018.”

Southampton City Council’s Cabinet member of Communities, Culture and Leisure, Councillor Satvir Kaur said: “Southampton Football Club is one of many reasons to be proud of our great city, and I feel it is only fitting this exhibition is hosted in Southampton’s SeaCity Museum, where we can celebrate the club’s history alongside the city’s.

"As a Saints supporter I am excited that the club are working with fans to ensure everyone can share their memories, and it will be fascinating to see what memorabilia fans bring to the roadshows.”
