Unbeaten run leaves Koeman optimistic

Ronald Koeman says he’s “very optimistic” about what Southampton can achieve between now and the end of the season.

Saints now have a 13-day break before they welcome reigning champions Chelsea to St Mary’s on Saturday 27th February.

The head into that break on the back of a 1-0 win against Swansea City, which extended their unbeaten run and clean sheet record to six games.

Now with just 12 games left of the season and his side sitting sixth in the Barclays Premier League, Koeman is confident of a strong finish to the campaign.

“I’m very optimistic at the moment because we are showing a great spirit and belief,” Koeman told Southampton’s official YouTube channel.

“The team looks very comfortable, but we have to realise every game you start at zero and you have to show your qualities.

“But at the moment it’s fantastic to be the coach of Southampton because we’re doing very well in the season.”

The win at the Liberty Stadium also saw Saints reach 100 points in the Premier League under Koeman.

“That’s not bad,” the Dutchman joked. “I’m very happy because you know every game is a difficult one.”
