José Fonte feels Southampton’s momentum can continue as they look to end the season well.
Just 12 games remain in the Barclays Premier League and following the win against Swansea City on Saturday, Saints are up to sixth, one point off fifth-placed Manchester United.
Shane Long grabbed the only goal in the win against the Swans, but it was a sixth clean sheet in a row that left onlookers most impressed with Ronald Koeman’s side.
And the captain, who has been a huge part of those six shut-outs, says there are two key factors behind the six-game unbeaten run.
“The belief and the confidence is there and we honestly believe we can finish the season very strongly,” Fonte told reporters after the game.
“It was an important three points against Swansea City and now we have to move on to the next one.”
Fonte also believes the team is excellently suited to the 3-5-2 formation that Koeman has opted for in recent weeks.
“Obviously the system we’re playing at the moment makes it very hard for any team to come and play against us,” Fonte added.
“We’ve found the right players for the right positions, which is very important and the momentum is there now.”
