Charlie Austin and Steven Davis will be included in the squad for tomorrow’s clash with West Ham United after returning to training following slight injuries.
Ronald Koeman confirmed that the pair trained fully this morning and will be in contention to face the Hammers on Saturday evening.
When asked for news on the pair’s fitness, the manager told youtube.com/southamptonfc: “It's positive.
“They did today a normal session – it was, for Steven Davis, the first of this week while Charlie already did most of the session on Thursday.
“Charlie is a little closer to the team than Davo, but both are part of the squad for tomorrow.”
There was bad news for Matt Targett, though – the full-back suffered a minor injury in training and will be ruled out of the seventh-versus-sixth clash at St Mary’s.
Nevertheless, Koeman could still consider reimplementing the 5-3-2 system that served Saints well in their three consecutive victories prior to a return to a four-man defence at the Emirates in midweek.
And the Saints boss says he’s keen to keep opposite number Slaven Bilic guessing as to how his side will line up tomorrow.
“I think that's sometimes the most difficult thing for the opponent: they can expect everything,” Koeman affirmed.
“We showed, after a good run with the 5-3-2 system, that we can play as well in the 4-4-1-1 system or even the 4-3-3 system. That makes it difficult [for West Ham], so we'll leave it like that.”
