Saints can take inspiration from last season’s memorable victory at Old Trafford as they prepare to visit Manchester United again this weekend, says Ronald Koeman.
Dušan Tadić’s cool finish earned the club a 1-0 win in January 2015, marking the first time since 1988 that they had won a league match at United’s stadium.
The memories of that day remain vivid for the Saints manager, who hopes that a few more can be created this weekend.
“It's a nice one, it's a game we are looking forward to, it's a nice challenge, a big team, a big name and of course we have great memories from last season,” Koeman told youtube.com/southamptonfc.
"It was fantastic. It's a fantastic place to play football and it's a great atmosphere. You mentioned 27 years ago that Southampton won at Old Trafford – that says everything. It does not happen every season and that was very enjoyable.”
Koeman added: "It's always important for the boys to know that we can beat big teams and teams who are spending more money, because it's all about what you show on the pitch, and we need to be comfortable, we need to be confident in our qualities and to show and not to be afraid.”
