Tadić: Early goal was important

By SFC Media Sun 17 Jan Club

Dušan Tadić felt that James Ward-Prowse’s opening strike of the game against West Bromwich Albion was the key to Saints’ success on Saturday.

Ward-Prowse got the ball rolling with a wonderful free-kick with just five minutes on the clock at St Mary’s and Tadić, then watching on as a substitute, was pleased to see the early contribution.

The Serbian said that the goal gave Saints a platform in the contest, and forced their opponents to loosen their defensive shape.

“It was a very good win and an important one for us,” Tadić highlighted post-match.

“We know that West Bromwich is a strong team and a compact team, but we had good opening to the game with a brilliant free-kick from Prowsey and, after that, it was more easy.

“The first goal is the most important one and then afterwards we had a little bit more space so then it was more easy to play against them because they needed to take more risks.”

After Ward-Prowse added a second, Tadić came on as a second half substitute to wrap up the win with the game’s third which stemmed from a fine flowing move forward.

“It was a good ball from Davis,” he recalled. “In the team everyone could show his qualities in the last 30 minutes because there was much more space than in the beginning of the game to create something.

“You can see this is really important. Defensively it was important that they didn’t create too many things and in the end we had more of the space to create.”

With back-to-back wins under their belts, Saints’ recent form as a much healthier look to it, and Tadić always believed that the results would come.

He said: “I think also before we played some good games and we were unlucky not to win some games but now, finally, we have a good performance and a result to match and we are really happy about that.”

Ahead of kick-off Saints added Charlie Austin to their forward ranks, and Tadić is looking forward to linking up with the former QPR man.

“We have already great strikers in Graziano and Shane, but Austin is a good striker and we know him,” he explained.

“It’s good always or competition because we always need players so it’s nice for the club.”
