Martina: We must play with our hearts

Cuco Martina believes Saints will turn their fortunes around against Watford tomorrow if they show their fighting spirit.

After Saturday’s FA Cup exit at home to Crystal Palace, Ronald Koeman’s side return to Barclays Premier League action when the Hornets visit St Mary’s.

The club’s last three games have ended in defeat, but Martina is confident they can get back to winning ways tomorrow and then head into Saturday’s home match against West Brom with a spring in their step.

"If we fight for each other and we play with the heart, I think if we win this game everything will be ok,” he told youtube.com/southamptonfc. “Saturday we have a game again and then you will go with a lot of confidence to the next game.

"I think it's very important, and I think if we win the game against Watford the team it will start getting more confidence to win the two games at home.”

While Saints are currently struggling for results, Martina believes there has still been a lot of good football from the side and insists it is important the side stick to their beliefs.

"I think we play well, we know that we can play a good game, but we are a little bit unlucky,” he said. “If we can stick to our gameplan for sure we will win games.”

Martina is also expecting a tough opponent in Watford, who are currently ninth in the table and in their last four games have thumped Liverpool 3-0, drawn at Chelsea and run both Tottenham and Manchester City close.

The teams drew 0-0 when they met at Vicarage Road earlier in the season, but, with Odion Ighalo and Troy Deeney in attack, the Hornets have two in-form strikers that Saints will need to be wary of.

"I think it will be a very difficult game, because Watford they have a few great players at the front and I know the game away was tough,” said Martina. “Also they have their gameplan and it will be a tough game I think.”
