Southampton beat Championship side Brighton & Hove Albion 1-0 in a behind-closed-doors training game on Wednesday.
Ronald Koeman’s side got more valuable minutes under their belt in preparation for the 2015/16 campaign against the Seagulls at the Staplewood Campus, with Sam McQueen scoring the only goal.
After two 45 minutes so far in pre-season, Jay Rodriguez came through an hour, while a number of internationals, including José Fonte, Graziano Pellè and Victor Wanyama also played 60 minutes.
Pellè had a venomous strike pushed away by Albion goalkeeper in the first half, while Maarten Stekelenburg made a good save to tip over Beram Kayal’s side-footed effort from the edge of the box as the sides went in level.
Albion made 11 changes at the break, while Koeman gave his charges the chance to get a full hour ahead of the trip to Holland on Friday.
Stekelenburg, who was the only man to stay on when Koeman made his changes with 30 minutes to play, made a smart save from Adrian Colunga as the second half wore on.
The winner arrived in the final minute as substitutes Sadio Mané and McQueen combined, with the latter finding the back of the net from 12 yards.
