There’s one more chance to see Southampton in action at St Mary’s this season, with Saints’ Under-21s rounding off their campaign with the visit of Manchester City on Tuesday night at 7pm BST.
It will be the second time in four days that Martin Hunter’s side have lined up against City, after a brace from Ryan Seager earned them a 2-0 victory at the Academy Stadium on Saturday whilst Ronald Koeman’s first team were busy dismantling Aston Villa in their final home game.
And Seager’s double up in Lancashire – his 20th and 21st goals of the season – will give Tuesday’s hosts confidence that they can make it three wins on the bounce when Patrick Vieira’s men come to town.
Southampton will be out to secure the three points that could see them earn a fifth-place finish, with first-team boss Ronald Koeman hinting on Thursday that striker Jay Rodriguez, who penned a new contract with the club last week, could be in line to make his return to action for the Under-21s on Tuesday.
“Jay is close. We hope that he can be part of the Under-21s game next week at home to Man City,” said Koeman.
“That will be his first game in the Under-21s for 30 or 35 minutes but it’s going well. He’s been doing all the exercises with the team this week.”
Entry to the match is free, and if you’re not able to come down and cheer on the next generation of Saints stars, there will be a live stream on our official YouTube channel:
