Saints could give youth a chance for Utd game

Ronald Koeman says Saints’ injury problems could well open the door to a number of young players.

Jack Cork has been ruled out for six weeks with an ankle injury, joining Morgan Schneiderlin (groin) in missing Monday’s game against Manchester United. Toby Alderweireld is doubtful due to a hamstring problem.

As a result, the likes of Jason McCarthy, Jake Hesketh and Ryan Seager joined the squad for training over the weekend – and Koeman says it’s likely that he will include some youngsters in his squad for tomorrow’s game.

“That’s one of the philosophies of the club,” the manager explained in an interview with Southampton’s official YouTube channel

“This gives young players a chance. On Saturday and Sunday we will put some young ones in to have a good squad for the last two training sessions.

“There is a possibility that we’ll have more than one Under-21 player on the bench for this Monday.”
