Lambert aims for FA Cup glory

Rickie Lambert admits he’s dreaming of lifting The FA Cup as Southampton prepare to enter the competition this weekend.

The striker is hoping to be in the team when Saints welcome Sky Bet Championship side Burnley to St Mary’s in the Third Round tomorrow.

Lambert was rested for last season’s game at this stage, when Southampton were dumped out by Chelsea at St Mary’s.

And the 31-year-old is looking to rekindle his relationship with the world’s oldest football competition this weekend – and he says Saints should be looking to go all the way.

“I’m desperate for a cup run personally, especially in The FA Cup,” said Lambert. “I absolutely love The FA Cup – I haven’t played in it for a while, so I’m desperate to play [against Burnley].

“We’ve got to look at trying to win it. This is the best situation I’ve ever been in where I can win The FA Cup.

“We’ve got a very good chance of winning The FA Cup, so we’ve got to take it very seriously – which I know the gaffer will. We’ve got to try and do as good as we can do.”

Lambert was speaking to BBC Radio Solent to look back over 2013 –
