Saints deserved something - Adam

Adam Lallana was deeply disappointed that Saints didn’t get the result he felt they deserved after their defeat to Aston Villa.

Southampton were victims of a very unfortunate 3-2 loss in their midweek Barclays Premier League clash with Villa at St Mary’s, leaving the skipper struggling to fathom how the hosts lost after their dominant performance.

It’s also prompted Lallana to declare that he can’t wait to the return fixture later in the season so Saints can atone for the loss with a victory – something he feels they should have come away with tonight.

“The start of the game was brilliant,” the skipper told Saints Player. “We were having chances and I thought it was only a matter of time before we’d get the first goal. They caught us on the counter and we came in at half-time one-nil down.

“We started the second half brightly and got a goal, then it happened again – they got a goal and we got one back. It’s disappointing because once we got back into the game twice we thought there was only one team that was going to win it.

“It’s such a strange feeling now. It’s just one of those games. I can’t wait to go back and play [Aston] Villa because I thought they didn’t deserve to get anything out of the game tonight and we deserved to get a result. I want to go there later on in the season and get three points.”

Lallana didn’t allow himself to be drawn on the result and instead looked ahead positively to another important match – Saturday’s welcoming of Manchester City – and expressed his belief that Saints can get back to winnings ways at the first time of asking.

The 25-year-old continued: “We’ve got a big game on Saturday – massive in fact. It’s not that we’re not playing well. We are playing well. We might have a couple of knocks on the back of this game, so we’ve just got to assess everyone tomorrow.

“We’ve got to prepare and get everyone as fit as we can. It is a big month. We’ve proved we can beat Man City. We did last season, so let’s do it again.”
