Saints defenders Calum Chambers and Matt Targett were part of the England Under-19s side that beat Hungary 4-1 in a friendly on Thursday afternoon.
Chambers captained the Young Lions at right back, whilst his club teammate Targett also played the full 90 minutes on his first appearance for his country, having switched from representing Scotland earlier in the year.
Noel Blake’s England side travelled to Telki for the warm-up fixture which acted as preparation for the Elite Round of qualifying for the 2014 UEFA European Under-19 Championship – a competition which also takes place in Hungary, during July next year.
Norwich’s Josh Murphy put England in front after five minutes of the contest, and then he turned provider for Paul Digby of Barnsley to double the visitors’ lead before half-time.
Derby County’s Mason Bennett made it 3-0 in the second half, and although Attila Talabér pulled one back with a 73rd minute free-kick, England’s three goal lead was restored thanks to another debutant in Callum Robinson of Aston Villa, whose late strike saw the U19s sign off 2013 with a comfortable win.
