Saints best I've seen them, says Davis

Kelvin Davis has revealed that the current period at Southampton is the finest he’s experienced since joining Southampton seven years ago.

As the Club currently sits in the highly promising position of sixth in the Barclays Premier League table, the custodian lauded the regime in place as Saints aim for their most successful era in Davis’ time at St Mary’s.

Asked whether this is the greatest period of his Southampton career, the ‘keeper assertively responded to reporters: “Certainly. The first half against Fulham was as good a game as I can remember Saints performing in my time.

“We’ve probably surprised a few people this season and it has come down to a lot of hard work. We’ve certainly worked very hard which the manager implements daily.

“In terms of the players we have at the Club now and the squad we have, it shows that we can go far in every competition – that can only be good for the Football Club.”

Saints’ rise to prominence this season has given Davis cause for optimism, prompting the 37-year-old to believe that Southampton’s Capital One Cup campaign can end with silverware – continuing with Wednesday’s fourth-round clash away to Sunderland.

“I certainly feel that it’s a competition that we can win,” Davis claimed. “I think last season I wouldn’t have said that. The reality is that we’re not too many games away from a final.

“If we can overcome Sunderland then we’re looking at a home game. Regardless of who it’s against, it’s a home game and we know what we can achieve at home. After that, anything is possible.

“We’re very ambitious and we’ve got a bunch of lads that are all in it together. Whoever plays, there’s always someone there to support and back them up and that’s the philosophy and attitude we’ve got in our dressing room.”
