Southampton Football Club is delighted to confirm that striker Rickie Lambert has been named in the England squad for next week's friendly against Scotland.
The 31-year-old will join up with the Three Lions after this weekend's friendly against Real Sociedad ahead of Wednesday's game at Wembley Stadium.
This represents Lambert's first involvement at international level, and comes after he scored 15 goals in his first top-flight season.
"I am very pleased for Rickie. It is always an honour for a player to represent their country," said First Team Manager Mauricio Pochettino.
"This call-up is the result of his hard work over the course of the four years he has spent at Southampton.
"This is something for the entire Club to be proud of, as the work we are doing at Southampton is being recognised on a national level."
There was good news for defender Luke Shaw, too, who has been named in the England Under-21 squad for their friendly against Scotland at Bramall Lane next Tuesday.
Both players will link up with their respective squads after Saturday's home friendly against Real Sociedad, and return to Southampton ahead of our Barclays Premier League opener at West Bromwich Albion on Saturday 17th August.
