The Premier League’s dubious goals panel has ruled that Rickie Lambert’s strike against Liverpool will be officially credited to the forward.
Lambert’s long range free-kick was deflected en route to goal past Reds ‘keeper Brad Jones as Saints went 2-0 up in the 3-1 victory over Brendan Rodgers’ side at St Mary’s on 16th March.
The strike was celebrated as Rickie’s 13th goal of the season, and that has now been confirmed by the League’s goal ruling committee who had to decide whether or not the touch from Liverpool forward Daniel Sturridge was significant.
Liverpudlian Lambert was delighted to notch a goal against his boyhood club, though confessed it wasn’t one of his better efforts.
"It wasn't my best-struck free-kick," he admitted to Saints Player after the game. "I've hit some decent ones this season, but we got a little bit of luck – and we deserved that. We haven't had much luck, so we'll take that.”
