We Have Deserved More – Pochettino

Mauricio Pochettino believes his side should have more to show from his opening three games in charge.

The Southampton First Team Manager is however, confident that performances will soon turn into the results that the team’s efforts merit.

Ahead of Saturday’s hosting of champions Manchester City at St Mary’s, Pochettino told Saints Player: “We played games in which we have deserved to get more points than we have done, but I think the way we are approaching games and playing are the way in which we will start to pick up points.

“All of our matches are difficult in this division, but we know that Manchester City were the champions last season so we will need to be at our best to beat them.

“For me, Manchester City are a great team with great individual players and they can decide a match on their own.”

City boast two of Argentina’s finest players, and fellow countryman Pochettino is relishing the opportunity to go head-to-head with strikers Carlos Tevez and Sergio Aguero.

“I can be proud of them because they are Argentinian, and I enjoy seeing them play both at club level and as part of our national team,” he explained.

“Tevez and Aguero are great players of a great level, almost on the same level as Messi, but Man City also have players like (David) Silva and many others who can dictate the direction of the game.”

It could be a landmark occasion for one of the Saints forwards though, as Rickie Lambert closes in on 100 goals for the club, and his manager wants to help the striker reach that target.

“Not only for me, but for anybody that likes football they can see that Rickie Lambert is a great footballer,” he said.

“Let’s hope that in his next match Rickie will score his 100th goal and then his 101st and 102nd!”

Nathaniel Clyne and Luke Shaw were amongst the absentees from international duty this week, but Pochettino couldn’t say on Thursday whether or not the duo will be involved this weekend.

“We are working on them and we hope they will be available, but we can’t be sure just yet.”
