Davis Not Fazed By Christmas Schedule

Kelvin Davis says Saints will be ready to go again on Boxing Day for the trip to Fulham.

The Club Captain believes that the squad is well prepared for the busy run of fixtures that they face in the next eight days which also sees Nigel Adkins’ men travel to Stoke, before hosting Arsenal on New Year’s Day.

Davis, though, doesn’t have to go too far back to recall a similar run of fixtures.

“Most of our lads have come through the Championship and League One, and playing Saturday-Tuesday-Saturday is a regular occurrence because you can play 50 or 60 games in a season,” he told Saints Player.

“We don't have to cast our minds back too far, but it's a different level we're at now and the intensity is as high as ever.

“I'm sure the manager is fully-aware of that and we've got all the recovery strategies in place to make ourselves fit and ready for Boxing Day.”

Saints will be training on Christmas Day as planned before travelling up to West London, and despite Saturday’s defeat to Sunderland Davis maintains that spirits are still high going into the next match.

“When you take our first eight-or-ten games, we probably wouldn't have thought we'd be above anyone on goal difference, so from that side of it, we are in a better place.

“Of course we have got to win games because we're not going to achieve what we want to this season if we don't. The fact other teams around us have won and Sunderland have turned us over is not great news, but there's still plenty there for us.”

Back in October, the ‘keeper was on the bench when Saints and Fulham played out a 2-2 draw at St Mary’s, but now Davis has his eyes on a third consecutive start for the reverse fixture at Craven Cottage on Wednesday.

“It's a traditional place to play football,” he explained. “I love the ground, so it's something I'm very much looking forward to.”
