Young goalkeeper Ollie Wright has been nominated for Premier League 2's January Player of the Month after his recent performances with Southampton's B team.

The first month of 2022 was saw Dave Horseman's side win two games from two, with victories over runaway league leaders Fulham and Middlesbrough.

Wright started both, alongside two further Premier League Cup games in January, as he cemented his starting place in the side and joins Thierry Small and Dynel Simeu in receiving nominations from the league this season.

The 19-year-old keeper also saved a penalty at St Mary's, denying an in-form Calum Kavanagh as Saints claimed three points.

Joining Wright on the shortlist is Conor Bradley (Liverpool), Lewis Dobbin (Everton), Leo Dos Reis (Birmingham City), Calum Kavanagh (Middlesbrough), Wanya Marcal-Madivadua (Leicester City) and James McAtee (Blackburn Rovers).

The winner will be decided by the Premier League Football Development Panel, who based their selections on who PL2 club coaches picked out as the best display by an opponent in each of their league matches.
