Barclays Women’s Championship action beckons from St Mary’s again as Marieanne Spacey-Cale’s side take on Sunderland.

Another side who are unbeaten in the league, Sunderland come off the back of a 1-0 win against promotion hopefuls London City Lionesses, after securing an opening day goalless draw with Sheffield United.

With Saints coming off the back of two wins, and enjoying a vocal crowd at St Mary’s last time out, it’s all to play for in SO14 at the weekend.

Last meeting

Saints left it late at the Eppleton Colliery Welfare Ground to secure all three points last season. Katie Wilkinson was the hero on the day, slamming home an unstoppable effort from close range, despite Sunderland arguably having the better opportunities.

Manager’s Notes

“We’re looking forward to another tough encounter in front of a fantastic home crowd at St Mary’s.

“The first two games and results have helped us build momentum, and we’re keen to keep our level high to continue that run.

“However, we know what Sunderland are capable of. They were hard-fought wins for us last season, and with Melanie Reay’s side coming into the fixture off similarly strong results, it’ll be another great contest.

“We’ll look to our fans to help cheer us on to a good result, and we’ll go out there with the intention of making some memories for them at St Mary’s.”
