Under-21s start pre-season with Northampton victory
Southampton's Under-21s began their pre-season schedule with a victory in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Northampton Town on Tuesday afternoon.
The match against the League One side was split into four, 20-minute sections as both sides gained some extra match fitness with a mix of players lining up in each quarter.
Northampton fielded a strong side for the opening two periods before introducing several Academy players for the second half of the game at Moulton College.
Saints' youngsters ran out 4-2 winners thanks to a brace from Ryan Finnigan, as well as strikes from Under-18s players Princewill Ehibhatiomhan and Jay Robinson.
The Cobblers' goals came from first team forward Kieron Bowie and one of their own Under-18s players, Leo Jenkins.
Dave Horseman's side travel to Oxford United on Saturday for their first full fixture of pre-season in another behind-closed-doors test against a League One side, with kick-off at midday.
