Local heats for the Utilita Girls Cup played out at Staplewood last week.

The unique opportunity to play at Wembley Stadium awaits for girls across England and Wales as the Utilita Girls Cup officially kicked off this month.

Staplewood Training Ground hosted Southampton’s heats for the Utilita Girls Cup last Friday (17 November), with girls under 13 teams from across Southampton and beyond competing to progress to their Regional competitions.

One of the country’s biggest national football competitions for schools, the Utilita Girls Cup competition will see more than 6,000 Under-13 girls representing local schools within the regions of the 72 EFL Clubs participate in competitive football this season.

The victorious teams from the north and south Finals then qualify to earn the right to represent their Club and play in their official colours at the 90,000-capacity national stadium before the EFL Trophy Final on April 7, 2024.

Participants from the Girls Cup who have gone onto reach the professional level at the Women’s Super League include Sam Tierney (Leicester City) and Miri Taylor (Liverpool).

And excitingly, former regional finalists Molly Pike and Kayla Rendell are now carving their top-flight careers here at Southampton.
