Smallbone "disappointed" after narrow Forest defeat
Southampton's Will Smallbone labelled the manner of side's defeat as "frustrating", as Nottingham Forest took all three points from a single goal at St Mary's.
The midfielder admitted that Saints "weren't at our best" in the first half, but felt aggrieved that an improved second half performance didn't yield any points.
The visitors' only goal came from Morgan Gibbs-White, who stabbed the ball home from a set piece in the 70th minute.
"I think in the second half we really brought the game to Forest, I think we played and the game panned out exactly how we wanted it to be.
"It's just really frustrating for the game to be lost on a goal from a set play, which we're massive on, but I think there are signs for positivity."
"We came out for the second half, we spoke at half-time about controlling the game and making it turn into a game that we saw so many times last year, and I think we managed to do that." Smallbone reflected.
"It's just disappointing to concede a goal like that, but I think going forward, if we can carry on to play exactly how we played in the second half, then there'll be positive signs."
