Six-year Saints stay ends for Redmond
Nathan Redmond has today completed a permanent transfer to Turkish outfit Beşiktaş, Southampton Football Club can confirm.
Departing after a six-year stay at St Mary’s, the winger has made a telling contribution to the club, making 232 appearances and scoring 30 goals during his time as a Saint.
Arriving from Norwich in the summer of 2016, Redmond scored on his competitive debut and went on to make 50 appearances in his first season, helping the team reach the EFL Cup final, famously scoring the winning goal in the semi-final first-leg victory over Liverpool at St Mary’s.
Remaining an integral part of the squad he shone in the 2018/19 campaign, finishing the season as top goal scorer across all competitions as well as claiming both the Players’ Player and Fans’ Player of the Season accolades.
With a keen eye for goal, he scored a string of fine strikes including a fondly remembered effort in the thumping win over Portsmouth in the EFL Cup in 2019, as well as a stunning solo effort in the same year at Burnley.
Now leaving the Premier League with 264 appearances in total, he moves to Turkey for a new challenge, joining 16-time Turkish Süper Lig champions Beşiktaş.
Everyone at Southampton Football Club would like to thank Nathan for his years of dedicated service both on and off the pitch and wish him every success in the future.
