Showing our support for Play Safe Weekend
We’re proud to be part of Play Safe Weekend, a nationwide campaign raising awareness about safeguarding in English football from 30th September to 1st October.
The initiative is being led by The Football Association and supported by the NSPCC. It’ll be backed at all levels of the game in England, including the Premier League, EFL, Barclays Women's Super League, and Barclays Women's Championship, as well as grassroots football.
This year’s play safe weekend focuses on the safeguarding role we all have to play. Everyone, everywhere, at all times is encouraged to watch, listen, talk and act if they have any safeguarding concerns.
At Saints, we’re committed to creating a positive safeguarding culture where everyone associated with the club feels secure. As part of the weekend, we’ll be making an online Play Safe Pledge to highlight our dedication to improving our safeguarding practices throughout the 2023/24 season and beyond to make sure of the safety of everyone involved in football.
We believe safeguarding is a collective responsibility. Through engaging with all areas of the club, including our staff, players, participants and fans, we aim to increase awareness of how to act and access available support in case of any safety concerns.
As an added show of support, the coaching staff of both our Women's First Team and Men’s U21's team will wear Play Safe badges during their games against Birmingham City W.F.C (1st October) and Reading U21’s (30th September) this weekend, with team captains wearing the Play Safe armband. Captains of our academy teams will also wear the armband during their games this weekend.
