Ché Adams and Stuart Armstrong were late substitutes in Scotland's UEFA EURO 2024 qualifying defeat to Spain.

Scotland began the day in pole position in Group A and remain in top spot despite the result, but a 2-0 defeat means their tournament qualification is delayed.

Manchester United's Scott McTominay had a goal controversially disallowed on the hour mark before Álvaro Morata broke the deadlock in the 74th minute.

This prompted swift action from Steve Clarke, who turned to both Adams and Armstrong in a double substitution to try and salvage a point.

Adams came close to finding an equaliser before the result was confirmed via a Ryan Porteous own goal.

Saints' Scottish duo still have their hopes of a second successive EUROs qualification in their hands if they collect a point from their final two games in November.
