Salisu earns Ghana World Cup call
Southampton defender Mohammed Salisu has been named in Ghana’s 26-man squad for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
The 23-year-old received his first Black Stars call-up in 2019, but only made his international debut in September this year as a half-time substitute against Brazil.
Salisu then made his first start four days later in a 1-0 victory over Nicaragua, and could play a key role in Qatar.
Ghana have been drawn in Group H and will commence their World Cup campaign against group favourites Portugal on Thursday 24th November (4pm GMT).
They will then face South Korea on Monday 28th November (1pm GMT), before their final group match against Uruguay on Friday 2nd December (3pm GMT) in a repeat of the 2010 World Cup quarter-final.
Salisu joins Saints centre-back partner Armel Bella-Kotchap in being selected for the tournament after the German was called up by Hansi Flick last week.
Fellow World Cup hopefuls James Ward-Prowse (England), Duje Ćaleta-Car (Croatia) and Roméo Lavia (Belgium) were not included by their respective national team managers.
