Southampton's Sam Amo-Ameyaw, Jayden Meghoma, and Tyler Dibling saw their Under-17 World Cup journey cut short as England were knocked out by Uzbekistan.

The Young Lions had progressed as Group C winners to face Uzbekistan, who advanced as one of the best third placed sides thanks to victory over Canada and a draw against Spain in the group stages.

It was Uzbekistan who raced into a shock lead after just four minutes, as Amirbek Saidov bundled home the opener with his fourth goal of the tournament.

Amo-Ameyaw and Meghoma started at the Jakarta International Stadium, as they had for two of the previous three games, with both providing attacking threats as England looked for a response.

The siege on Muhammadyusuf Sobirov's goal lasted for the rest of the half and Ryan Garry's side finally equalised through Manchester City's Joel Ndala in the 35th minute.

England came out for the second period looking to take the lead as Amo-Ameyaw unleashed a powerful shot from range that was saved.

However, just after the hour, an impressive free-kick from Lazizbek Mirzaev proved to be the eventual match winner.

Amo-Ameyaw was substituted in the 81st minute with Saints teammate Tyler Dibling coming on in his place to try and find an equaliser, but his late impact was in vain as a second England goal never materialised.

Uzbekistan matched their best ever run, having only reached the quarter-finals of the tournament once before, as England bow out in the first knockout round.
