Southampton Football Club is delighted to confirm it has completed the loan signing of Maxwel Cornet from West Ham United.

The forward tonight finalised a move to St Mary’s, bolstering Russell Martin’s squad ahead of the summer transfer window closing.

Cornet, 27, arrives after two seasons with West Ham, where he has made 37 appearances and was part of the squad that won the UEFA Europa Conference League in 2023.

He is also an experienced international, with 31 Ivory Coast caps to his name, while he previously represented France up to Under-21 level.

Cornet came through the youth ranks at French club Metz and subsequently played six seasons for Lyon, making more than 250 appearances for the side and fulfilling a key role as they reached the semi-finals of the Champions League in the 2019/20 campaign.

He then moved to England in 2021, joining Burnley, where he produced a fine season, scoring nine times in 28 matches, ahead of his move to West Ham 12 months later.

Southampton manager Russell Martin said: “Maxwel is a very dynamic player and he gives us another exciting dimension to the group.

“He’s someone who can be a real threat to the opposition on the pitch and I’m delighted the ownership group and board have been able to get another attacking option in for us.

“He’s really excited to be coming here and I think it’s a move that can bring out the best in him and work really well for both him and us.”
