Ryan Finnigan seals Crewe Alexandra loan
Southampton Football Club can confirm that young midfielder, Ryan Finnigan, has joined Crewe Alexandra on loan for the remainder of the season.
The 19-year-old has sealed his first senior loan move, linking up with the SkyBet League Two outfit until the end of the 2022/23 season.
Finnigan made his debut for Saints in January 2021 as a late substitute in the Emirates FA Cup against Shrewsbury Town and has featured in multiple first team matchday squads during the current campaign.
He was also included in Nathan Jones's first training camp in Spain during December, regularly linking up with the senior side in first team training.
He will bolster the midfield of Lee Bell's Crewe side for his first taste of regular senior football as the Railwaymen look to push further up the division in a tightly contested league table.
Speaking on the loan move, Academy Director Matt Hale commented:
“This is a very good opportunity now for Ryan to take the next step in his career path. We all feel that Ryan is ready to taste senior football and experience what the football league can offer him.
"His athletic ability has improved considerably this season and he has shown he is ready to handle the physicality of senior football. It will be a positive learning curve for him.
"Crewe have a really strong reputation for youth development and we know Ryan will be in safe hands in taking his game to the next level and continue his football education.”
The club wishes Ryan well for the rest of the campaign and looks forward to monitoring his progress.
