Martin: I'm enjoying watching the group grow
Manager Russell Martin reflected on a hugely satisfying Saturday for Southampton, his side beating Hull City 2-1 thanks to a 95th minute winner in the Sky Bet Championship
Will Smallbone opened the scoring on 20 minutes after a well-worked move but the lead only lasted five minutes; Liam Delap equalising for the hosts.
The winner came in the fifth minute of stoppage time, substitute Ryan Fraser finishing another team move with an emphatic finish into the top corner.
For the manager, it was yet more evidence of the growth going on within the team:
"I’m really enjoying watching the group grow together, I really enjoyed watching them with the supporters at the end. I feel like we’re building and we’re growing something, we just need to keep doing it.
"The second goal is a very nice goal. The first one is good too, Kamaldeen with some individual brilliance and then Kyle [Walker-Peters] with some of the same. The second one is a brilliant team goal with an excellent finish from Ryan [Fraser].
"He’s another player who’s growing all the time with us and working out what’s required. He came on in a different position today, showing he’s flexible and he’s a good footballer with a great mentality.
"[The late goal] was a brilliant moment for everyone, I’m really proud of the players. For the supporters to have that at the end was nice, they were brilliant throughout the game, I know it’s been a nightmare journey for a lot of them with the storms and the weather.
"So I’m really pleased for everyone, really proud of the players. Everyone who got on the pitch, the guys that didn’t, the way they celebrated at the end it means a lot to me that."
