Martin delighted with Stewart debut
Summer signing Ross Stewart made his long-awaited debut off the bench in Saturday’s 2-1 win over West Brom, much to the delight of manager Russell Martin.
The striker, who’s been sidelined since January through injury, was introduced in the 83rd minute to mark his first senior outing in red and white, as Saints successfully moved eight games unbeaten.
Commenting after the game, a pleased Russell Martin said: “A brilliant moment and the way the crowd reacted to him coming on I absolutely loved that and I’m sure he would’ve loved that. It’s a really big moment for him and I’m really pleased for him.
“The players are really pleased for him. They all applauded him at the end because its been a long old road for him and he’s in a good place and we have to keep building him up now as he’ll be a big player for us.
“I thought he did great when he came on as well. Great to have him back and now we just need to keep focusing on him and get him into the team at some point as it’s not going to be easy for him.”
